In this video, we discuss the perceptions of injustice and victimisation that often underpin far-right extremist ideologies. Violent extremists and terrorists who engage in violence against migrants often say that white people are under threat, and that they are discriminated against in white-majority societies. Is this true? Where do these perceptions originate? We discuss these questions with Paul Thomas, Professor of Youth and Policy at the University of Huddersfield. Paul has conducted research in racially tense communities in the north of England. He is a qualified youth worker and has conducted research on how the Prevent Duty has been understood and implemented by schools and colleges in England.
